We tend to think of autumn colour just being trees - but flowers at the moment are rich and deep and exciting! After sketching last week in situ, I've collaged them as a starting point for looser brush work, exploring particularly deep maroons and oranges - you almost want to lick the colours, but these images don't do justice to the real thing. Paint works differently over different paper surfaces and allows the original drawing to show through in places giving rise to the unexpected - well sometimes! These are small works 27 x 27cm now in my sketch book for September.
